Falkirk Wheel Opening, May 2002

The following photos are some more of the opening event and our journey there and back, taken by John Howell and Iain. I have also included a couple taken last December (but which have only now emerged!) which show an empty caisson and the seal at the end.

The master, his crew, and the dogs, on the wheel aqueduct. This photo was taken by Eugene.

On the Avon aqueduct, the second biggest in the UK.

An empty caisson, not even any water!

The seal at the end of the caisson. The two black bits fold down in opposite directions to open the seal.
