Erecting the gateposts on 19th October 2002.
Some years ago, Ian and Claudia, two of our members found some hefty gates which, although a little bent, they thought might come in handy. The old wharf we lease from BW had a rickety wooden gate which was too near the road and this meant that whoever arrived first had to park on a bend while they opened the gate. Dave spoke to BW and it was agreed that they would take away our gates and straighten them if we would erect a couple of metal gateposts (which they would supply). BW would then hang the gates and we would paint them. This seemed too good an offer to refuse! The date for digging the holes and erecting the posts was set but unfortunately, when it arrived most of the team were otherwise engaged or indisposed (it was the day after the Irish IWA visit) and the job was postponed. A new date was set and it rained... The next date proved to be dry, sunny and seven people could manage to come along. After much measuring and discussing tactics the job started and after four hours, two big holes had been dug and two large gateposts had been planted in them. Much concrete had been mixed to hold them in pace. The following photos record the event. A great team effort!
